Morwenna is a Scottish based artist who's work revolves around the themes of light, colour, psychedelia and patterns in nature. Her current work explores how patterns in nature share resonance with the mind:
Is it just coincidence that neurons, tree branches, rivers and lightning bolts share the same fractal form? Amidst the apparent chaos and randomness of life, lies hidden order and continuity, evidenced in the recurrent forms found in nature. Logarithmic spirals, symmetry and fractal geometries repeat throughout the natural world, without any clear causative mechanism, as explored by Dundonian biologist and mathematician, D'Arcy Thompson. These artworks aim to capture the essence of these universal patterns, reducing them down to abstract forms which resemble their natural origins, whether it be water, clouds, tree bark, branches or flowers. Self organisation exists in the physical world, but also internally, within the realm of the mind. Psychoanalyst Carl Jung proposed that Archetypal forms appear not only in nature but within the depths of the unconscious mind, brought into consciousness through meditative techniques. In this sense nature is psychedelic; a word tarnished by historical radicalism; however, we may find intrigue in its original meaning, from Greek 'to manifest the mind or soul'. Nature is like a mirror, reflecting all consciousness, by observing it, meditating on it, and perhaps harnessing its medicinal power, we may learn more about our bodies, our minds, and our place in the universe.
